Newton, Kan., (November 15, 2024) – NMC Health, is pleased to announce the full repayment of the hospital revenue bonds issued in 1994 for the initial construction of the Newton Medical Center, now known as NMC Health. This significant financial milestone reflects the organization’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and community investment.

The bonds were instrumental in the establishment of the hospital, which officially opened its doors in 1996. Initially a 66-bed facility spanning 115,000 square feet, NMC Health has grown substantially over the years. Today, the hospital boasts 99 beds and occupies more than 141,000 square feet, demonstrating its ongoing dedication to meeting the healthcare needs of the community.

In addition to the main hospital, the NMC Health campus has expanded to include a Medical Plaza, Medical Park, and Surgery Center. The organization has also broadened its services to encompass ten specialty clinics, enhancing access to quality healthcare for the region.

“The full repayment of these bonds is a living testament to the visionary founders and community members who dreamed big dreams. Today we stand upon their shoulders in a beautiful and well-equipped facility that continues to serve in time of need,” said Val Gleason, President and CEO of NMC Health. “We are proud of the continued trust our community places in us and the growth that has resulted. Today, building a facility like the original 66-bed Medical Center would cost an estimated $85-95 million, underscoring the value of our investments over the years.”

NMC Health remains dedicated to its mission of offering comprehensive, high-quality healthcare services. As the organization celebrates this financial achievement, it looks forward to the opening of its most recent expansion in spring 2025. An emergency department with added rooms customized for emergency behavioral health needs is one more expansion that will further enhance patient care and community health initiatives.
