Scholarship RecipientsNewton Medical Center (NMC) announced today the recipients of this year’s Sandra Qamar Nursing Scholarship.

The fund honors longtime NMC nurse leader, Sandra Qamar, and it provides scholarships to NMC registered nurses pursuing higher degrees in nursing or nursing-related fields. Selected applicants demonstrate an outstanding capacity for nursing practice and leadership, have a record of high achievement and have mature and clearly defined career interests with evidence of potential for professional accomplishments. Last year, the fund reached $100,000, making it self-sustaining.

This year’s recipients include Sarah Blosser, Trista Coffey and Janie Mosqueda (all pictured with Sandra Qamar). Blosser serves as the nurse manager for the Inpatient Rehabilitation and Generations units, and is pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing degree through Maryville University, specializing in psychiatric mental health. Coffey, who works in the hospital’s Perianesthesia department, is working towards a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wichita State University. Mosqueda, NMC’s employee health specialist, is seeking a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Hesston College.

“These nurses are exceptionally passionate about helping their patients and fellow nurses,” said Heather Porter, chief clinical officer. “We’re extremely proud to see them furthering their education, which will enable them to make an even greater impact in our community.”
