Today, we challenge you to do one self-care activity. Why? Because self-care is more than just a trendy catchphrase; it’s a fundamental aspect of maintaining your overall health and well-being. By prioritizing self-care, you can improve your physical, mental, and emotional health.
If your to-do list is a mile long and you feel like you don’t have time to practice self-care, don’t stress.
- Take a short break during your workday
- Walk around the block
- Practice relaxation techniques
- Drink water
- Sit in the sunlight
How’s your diet? Yes, we’re going there! Choosing good foods to put in your body is also a form of self-care. What would happen if you didn’t eat any added sugars for a day? We’re working on this one, too… It’s tricky when sweets are everywhere! But let’s do this together…one sweet step at a time! When you cut out, or even consume less added sugar, you may be able to lower your heart disease risk. Other benefits include:
- Better nutrition
- Healthier teeth
- Healthy blood glucose levels
- Lower caloric intake
- Improved cholesterol
- Minimize or prevent inflammation
Sugar has more than 50 names, so it’s important to know what you’re looking for on the nutrition label. Watch out for corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, brown rice syrup, evaporated cane juice, and more.
Skip the prepackaged foods in the grocery store and opt for whole foods like fresh fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts. Drink water, not sports drinks and sodas.
Prioritizing self-care isn’t selfish. You’re simply investing in your long-term health and happiness.
One more way to practice self-care is to get regular wellness check-ups and preventitive health screenings. We know. There are so many of them to remember. How often do I need to get my eyes checked? A mammogram? A colonoscopy? We’ve made it easy with our free wellness checklist.
