“Unlike many of my peers, I did not grow up knowing that I wanted to be a doctor – my journey was very non-traditional,” she said. “I became interested in medicine after navigating the healthcare system while raising my children.”
After spending time teaching Spanish and staying home to raise a family, Dr. Dobson was looking for a change.
With the support of her family, she returned to college to complete the classes she needed before being accepted into Kansas University School of Medicine.
She began medical school in 2013 and graduated from residency in 2020. Part of that time, she spent right here at NMC Health.
“Working at the NMC Health ER is my dream job,” she said. “I fell in love with NMC Health when I did an ER rotation here as a medical student with Dr. Dillard.”
Dr. Dobson strives to provide compassionate medical care for those who come to the ER sick, hurting or injured. She feels that being able to be there for people during that time is truly a privilege.
“I make a point to really spend time explaining a patient’s diagnoses, lab/imaging results and medications,” Dobson said. “I feel like this is just as important as correctly diagnosing and treating them, and is very empowering for a patient on his/her journey to healing.”
When Dr. Dobson isn’t at work, she enjoys anything that allows her to spend time with her family. She can be found outside gardening and biking. Dr. Dobson is also involved with Boy Scouts of America and has enjoyed volunteering in different capacities for many years. She served on the medical staff at Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
Dr. Dobson has lived in the Wichita area for 20 years, but was born in Indianapolis, IN. She also lived in Kansas City during high school. Dr. Dobson plans to eventually settle down just outside of Newton.
