Char DeSmith enjoys helping others and combining that with exercise, which made becoming a physical therapist assistant a great choice. It was the career was meant for her. Char was born in Washington state but grew up in Newton. She chose to stay in the town where she spent most of her life and help the people of Newton.
“The most rewarding thing about being a therapist is helping patients heal and feel better after a surgery or injury,” she said. “I enjoy talking with them, which helps get their mind off of their pain. I like to make them laugh if I can.”
Char also trained in aquatic therapy, which can help relieve joint pain from:
- arthritis,
- athletic injuries,
- sprains and strains,
- back pain,
- neck pain and more.
She is also a credentialed clinical instructor who teaches part-time through Hutchinson Community College.
When she’s not working, you’ll find Char spending time with family and friends. She loves to travel and visit National parks. Char also enjoys studying astronomy and meteorology. Fast pitch softball is her favorite sport to watch.
