Newton, Kan., (October 16, 2024) – NMC Health is excited to welcome the community to participate in a beam-signing event, marking a significant milestone in its Emergency Department Expansion Project.
The beam-signing event will take place on Thursday, October 24, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, in the newly constructed ambulance bay on the east side of the NMC Health Medical Center (600 Medical Center Drive, Newton, KS). Following a brief statement and status update on the project, attendees will get to leave a lasting mark by signing their names on the final structural beam to be installed in the ambulance bay.

Your signatures on this beam will represent the collective support that makes these advancements possible.”
About the expansion project
Scheduled for completion in Spring 2025, NMC Health’s Emergency Department Expansion Project will add a specialized emergency behavioral health center and many other improvements to the existing Medical Center. The project is focused on providing community members with the right care in the right place, offering dedicated spaces for the different types care needed during medical emergencies versus mental health emergencies.
The expansion and remodel include:
- Three new state-of-the-art psychiatric care emergency rooms outfitted specifically for the care of persons experiencing behavioral health crises.
- Increased emergency care capacity and capability to better manage patient surges.
- A second dedicated, secure nurse station adjacent to the new rooms.
- An additional emergency triage room.
- A remodeled and re-configured emergency department registration area with private waiting areas for both emergency and surgery patients.
- A fresh new look for persons entering the hospital through the emergency entrance.
- A new, modernized and enclosed ambulance garage immediately east of its current location.
- Updated emergency chemical decontamination capabilities ideal for a community with high train and truck traffic.
- Enhanced building security features in the emergency department.
