Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. To help prevent heart disease and increase awareness of its effects, Newton Medical Center is proudly participating in American Heart Month.
During the month of February, Newton Medical Center has the following events and activities planned:
February 1
Heart Month Kickoff
7 to 9 a.m. & 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Outside the NMC Sunflower Café
- Stop by our booth for educational information, details about upcoming events, or to pick-up an American Heart Association red dress lapel pin.
February 5
National Wear Red Day®
- Employees and the public are encouraged to wear red to raise awareness about heart disease being the number one killer of women.
- The NMC Sunflower Café is offering a selection of red food in support of the day.
February 11
Ladies’ Night Out
5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Medical Plaza of Park City
- Discover your heart’s desire at the Lovelle Plastic Surgery Ladies’ Night Out event, benefiting the American Heart Association.
February 23
Dinner with the Doctor
6 p.m. dinner, 6:30 p.m. presentation
NMC Sunflower Café
- Cardiologist Dr. Hossein Amirani will discuss heart disease risk factors and prevention. Reservations for dinner required; $5 per person. RSVP by Feb. 19: (316) 283-2700, ext. 2229.
At each of these events, we are encouraging the public to learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. Everyone who participates by taking a heart attack recognition quiz will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year family membership to the YMCA.
Even newborns are included in Heart Month festivities. In collaboration with the American Heart Association, all babies born at Newton Medical Center during the month of February will receive a handmade red hat.
