NMC Health is pleased to welcome Tad Parsons, DPT, as our new Director of Outpatient Services! He’s ready to lead our outpatient teams to new heights. As director, he will oversee these services: Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center; Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation; Diabetes Education; and both inpatient and outpatient Physical, Speech, and Occupational Therapy.

We can’t wait to see the positive impact he will make on you, the community, and our team! But, first, let’s get to know him a little better.

Why are you excited to join NMC Health?

NMC Health has a great atmosphere, a beautiful campus, and a positive reputation that reaches well beyond Newton, Kansas. I’m excited to lead and assist NMC Health in remaining a great place to receive healthcare and work.

Why did you choose to have a career in healthcare?

Growing up in sports, I had my share of injuries and discovered the healthcare field firsthand, as a patient. This sparked my curiosity, which eventually led to my healthcare career.

What is your specialty, and why did you choose it?

I have worked as a physical therapist, which provided a great work/life balance. It also gave me a great understanding of the human body and how it moves, while giving me ample time to get to know my patients. In addition, I have spent several years working in management with various employers and in my own private practice office.

What inspires you to do what you do every day?

I enjoy investigating problems and helping to find solutions. Whether doing so as a clinician or from an operations viewpoint, I find it both challenging and rewarding.

What is your favorite thing about working with patients?

I really enjoy seeing the direct impact you can have on another person’s life through healthcare. Everyone who interacts with patients has the opportunity to help solve problems and leave them in a better state.

What is your top priority when providing healthcare?

First and foremost is making sure the patient gets high quality diagnostics and treatment, while providing excellent personal care along the way. I recognize how essential it is for a healthcare system to manage its finances wisely, helping ensure a strong medical center that serves both patients and staff effectively.

What are your favorite things to do outside of the office?

You can often find me on a golf course, working out at the gym, at church activities, or relaxing around the house with family and friends. I don’t get to it as often as I’d like. But, I also enjoy getting back to my family’s farm/cattle ranch in Western Kansas and “getting my hands dirty” once in a while.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering a career in healthcare, what would it be?

Explore the vast options that are available within healthcare. Shadow and get exposure, because you never know what you may enjoy until you are exposed to it.

What’s the best advice you received?

The best advice I’ve received and would echo to others is to occasionally get outside your comfort zone. Don’t make reckless decisions, but pushing beyond your comfort zone is what produces the best growth in your life.

What’s one thing you wish every patient knew?

I wish every patient knew the importance and value of “taking ownership” of their healthcare. Before my career in healthcare, I was guilty of not doing this as well. Too often we come to providers and healthcare staff expecting to be passively fixed. Healthy lifestyle changes and following your providers’ advice, paired with healthcare treatment, will produce the best outcome.

Tad, we’re excited to welcome you to NMC Health. We look forward to the fresh ideas you’ll share with us to keep quality care at the center of everything we do.
