What is occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy is a form of therapy that focuses on helping you recover from injuries that interfere with your daily life. An occupational therapist will help you get better doing the things you have to do every day.
With the help of an occupational therapist, you will learn how to adapt and carry out normal activity with little pain. Our goal is to help you live independently and get back to doing the things you love to do.
How we treat
Occupational therapists work with patients of all ages who need a little help adjusting to the world around them. Here’s a list of some of the commonly treated conditions:
- Using adaptive equipment
- Range of motion exercises
- Injury prevention
- Casting
- Coordination
- Stroke rehabilitation
If you need help with any day-to-day activity, occupational therapy might be a good option for you.

FAQs
Yes. Just like physical therapy, occupational therapy should be covered by your insurance. You will need a referral from a doctor before being seen by an occupational therapist.
While some of the exercises and fundamentals of occupational therapy might overlap with physical therapy, occupational therapy focuses more on helping you become independent and get back to normal (or as normal as possible) after injury.
Physical therapy focuses more on physical mobility and can include managing chronic pain.
The number of times you’ll need to see your occupational therapist depends on the level of injury or amount of help you need to get back to your daily life. Our therapists are trained to teach you how to be autonomous and not be dependent on others.
Speak with your therapist about your treatment plan. They will give you an idea of what kind of home exercises you need to do in order to improve your recovery time.
During your first session, our highly trained occupational therapists will ask you questions about what you’d like to accomplish during your therapy. They’ll discuss your injury and your daily lifestyle activities to get an idea of what exercises and interventions might need to happen to get you back on track.
Each patient will have a care plan tailored to their needs. Your treatment plan may include exercises, stretching, adaptive equipment or casting. Your occupational therapist will walk you through the process and show you how to use any equipment you might need to get better.
It’s always a good idea to come a little early to your first appointment to fill out any necessary paperwork. Also, be sure you bring a valid driver’s license and your insurance card.
You can expect to spend about an hour with your therapist as they get to know you and your injury. Be sure to ask your occupational therapist any questions you might have, as they will be your number one advocate during your time in our occupational therapy program.
