For three years, John had been growing his hair because his wife loved long hair and she’d been the deciding vote on his looks over the years. As John said jokingly, “I would’ve shaved it all off, except she’d probably divorce me.” But when he and his wife finally decided to move on from his long hair, John decided to do some good with it.
With cancer on both sides of John’s family, the odds are extremely high for John to develop cancer himself. At age 19, a tumor was removed from his face, and in his twenties, John was checked for lung cancer.
“Cancer is a very real threat in my life,” said John. “So when it came time to cut my hair, I knew I wanted to give back to those who are fighting cancer right now.”
John donated twelve inches of his hair to Locks of Love, a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis, and considers the donation a simple act of kindness that has far reaching effects.
