Get to know Dr. Hutchison:

Why are you excited to join NMC Health?

I am thrilled to be moving back to a community similar to the one I grew up in. I am excited to be joining the NMC Health team as they are a group that provides quality, patient-focused care. I am looking forward to adding my skill set to the mix in order to serve our community and the surrounding areas.

Why did you choose to have a career in healthcare?

My decision to pursue a career in healthcare came at a very young age thanks to spending a lot of time interacting with various physicians caring for my immediate family. I saw first hand the major impact those physicians had on the life of my family member and decided I wanted to have the ability to positively impact lives in the same way.

What is your specialty, and why did you choose it?

My specialties are general surgery and surgical critical care. I chose general surgery early on in my training as I’ve always been a hands-on person and really enjoy being able to physically fix problems to assist my patients in having a better quality of life. My goal with my critical care training is to be equipped to provide high quality evidence-based care to our most vulnerable patients while still being able to keep them close to their homes and the people who love them.

What inspires you to do what you do every day?

The patients. It is incredibly rewarding to know that when patients are ill or injured, they trust their healthcare providers to be there to care for them. I am grateful for the privilege to get up every day and have the opportunity to have a positive impact on the people around me.

What is your favorite thing about working with patients?

Getting to know them as people. Everyone has a story to tell and understanding a little more about a patient as a person allows us to provide better care that aligns with their goals and wishes.

What is your top priority when providing healthcare?

My top priority when providing healthcare is to provide high quality, evidence-based care, to any patient who needs it.

What are your favorite things to do outside of the office?

I love to travel and experience new things, from different countries to new local shops and restaurants. I also enjoy baking, crafting, reading, taking my dog Simon for walks, and spending quality time with my family.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering a career in healthcare, what would it be?

I would suggest that anyone interested in a career in healthcare should take some time to look into all of the different career options. There is more than just doctors and nurses, and every member of the care team plays an integral role in providing high quality care. From physical therapists and phlebotomists to registrars and clerks, every person matters and can make a major impact in someone’s life.

What’s the best advice you received?

To never forget the reason I chose medicine.

What’s one thing you wish every patient knew?

That at the end of the day, everyone on your care team is here because they care about you and helping you to be the healthiest you possible.

We are proud to have Dr. Hutchison as part of our growing NMC Health family, and we know her skill and passion will have a lasting impact on the community.

We look forward to seeing the incredible things she will accomplish as she begins this exciting chapter with us. Welcome, Dr. Hutchison!
